The discussion between Scott and Luke (in this post and the next) is very educating.

As part of a course I deliver we do an exersise on assigning priorities where we don't that much use the numbers, but focus more on ways to reach agreement on the assigned priorities.

Hey Luke, thanks three times.

First for commenting :) Welcome to Tyner Blain.

Second, for normally agreeing with me.

Third, thanks for pointing out the sloppiness. Yes, financial terms is not the right way to balance strategic, political, user-centric, and non-broken windows priorities. You have to go to a relative measure of value. I guess that's why I immediately switched when I started getting into the meat of the article.

Let's take the conversation to the part-2 I just wrote: Plan Your Next Sprint by Bang For The Buck: Part 2. Hopefully, you'll agree that my poor choice of language in part 1 is what was flawed, and not the ideas. Looking forward to your thoughts and everyone else's!

Normally, I find myself agreeing with Scott's writings. In this case, I think Scott is tragically flawed: Prioritizing a Product Backlog for ROI is a fool's errand. Scott, please read http://www.enthiosys.com/insights-tools/prioritizeforprofit1of3/.

As an aside, I really dislike that you start talking about ROI in financial terms and then immediately switch to "units" of value.

Luke

PS. Gotta LOVE the web and how it allows us to debate such topics!
