Thanks SO much for commenting, and for linking to your comparison of monitoring versus analytics.

I hope you&#039;re still monitoring this article - I&#039;d love to discuss this more with you.  I feel pretty passionately about this area, after years of programming, business analysis, product management and strategic work.  

My guess is that my writing needs to be better, because the only premise I can infer from re-reading this is that people tend to fixate on solving the wrong problems.  Specifically, they focus on problem manifestations, not the underlying root-cause problems.  And I&#039;d be surprised if we actually disagreed about that.

Please let me know what it was you disagreed with, I &lt;i&gt;really&lt;/i&gt; look forward to the conversation!
